Patrick WarrenPaul Mulingani

My name is Paul Mulingani I have been a choir member for 15 years and I sing in the Bass Baritone section of the Choir.

I am 64 years old married and have two daughters and a son all currently serving in the uniformed services. I joined the regular Army as a Junior Drummer Boy in 1962, serving in the ranks for 22 years reaching the rank of Warrant Officer Class 1, Regimental Sergeant Major (RSM) after which I was then commissioned from the ranks to Captain finally retiring in the rank of Major.

On completion of my Army Service with the Staffordshire Regiment (The Prince of Wales’s) I went in search of camaraderie, friendship  and a new social life as a civilian and was drawn predictably towards The Ex-Servicemen’s Club in Cannock.

The club has had it’s own Ex-Servicemen’s Choir since 1947, learning of this and being gregarious by nature and personality, I decided that a pint or two of Ale and a sing song with like minded men could make for a good and enjoyable social life and I was not wrong.

I found that although not all the choristers came from the Ex-Service Community but from very diversified employments across the working spectrum, Coalminers, Police Officers School Teachers, Bus Drivers and retired citizens, the ethos of the choir was of a band of brothers bound in comradeship and very much enjoying their singing and social activities to the benefit of them selves their partners and the group as a whole.

I am still very much a full time working man, employed by The Royal British Legion as the County Manager of Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire, a full time job looking after the welfare and needs of the past, present, serving and Ex Service community, however I can still find time and very much look forward to my Monday night singing practice once a week and performing at various choir concerts during the year.

For camaraderie, friendship and a wonderful social life I commend you do as I did and give the choir a visit, come and join us and enjoy.
